She graduated from Santa Fe Preparatory School in 1986. She majored in drama and graduated from Northwestern University with a theatre degree. Gunn attended the British American Drama Academy for a semester in fall 1988. Pamela Adlon was her housemate following her move from Laurel Canyon Los Angeles. Gunn is best known for her character Skyler White on the AMC Drama Breaking. In the years 2013 and 2014, she was awarded a nomination for Primetime Emmy Award Outstanding Supporting Actress in an Drama Series. In August of 2013, she published an opinion piece in The New York Times examining the negative reactions of people towards her portrayal.
